You Meet The Nicest People On A Honda

I took Topanga Canyon over to PCH during my ride up to Camarillo yesterday, and along the way I came across a “biker” broken down on the side of the road. “Biker” because he was on a scooter, but two wheels are two wheels so technically he’s a biker. But whatever, the point is that I stopped to help him.
His air filter was acting up– it was gone, actually; he’d been using a crumpled-up napkin that either fell off or got eaten by the engine — and he was trying to jury-rig a fix for it with a piece of nylon stocking. I cut a few inches off one of the leather laces on my jacket so he could use it to tie the nylon in place, and then he was down the road again.
I post this only to point out to Dom that both times I’ve stopped recently it’s been for Honda riders. That’s gotta do something to offset my contributing to “the stream of stories of parts falling off Harleys,” right?
Lemme tell ya, that was one broke-ass Honda he was on. I was surprised it ran at all…

At first, I thought this was one brave soul being seen in public on a rig like that. Then again, I felt bad figuring in this horrible economy, it might be the only way this poor bastard could get around. I suppose it beats walking.
It was nice of you to stop, and if you could hold back from telling him to lose the flames on his helmet, I’d say it puts you in line for Saint-hood!
Don’t knock scooters until you’ve ridden one, guys. Scooter is to motorcycle as go-kart is to car in terms of “WHEEEEE!” Lady Luck’s Vespa does 0 - 40 nearly as fast as my Triumph, and the scooter can turn around in a single parking spot. It’s just unbelievably fun.
Good on ya for stopping! I always stop when I see a bike on the side of the road, even if it’s just checking to make sure they’re ok.
consider your “contributing to the stream of stories where pieces fall of of Harleys” faux pas negated. : )
of course, that liftgate incident just proves you’d built up enough good karma by helping those hondas to keep the bike from toppling over. Glad that didn’t happen. : )
