Reading that made me nervous. Ramming my scooter into the back of a car, let alone my wife's, would not bode well for her comfort level of having me out on the road riding.

Glad the universe was smiling on you that day.

Glad you came out of that one with no new war wounds, Chuck.

Consider that, in the space of a moment, you brought 3 decades of riding experience into play and outmaneuvered Death, then re-defined "fidelity" in your wife's eyes by owning up and not letting her take the fall for the near miss. Huge skills on both fronts.

... meanwhile, back at the Rough Rangers clubhouse, (somewhere deep in the bowels of West Hollywood - pun definitely intended) there's a patch holder bragging to his brothers about the biker who was so smitten he nearly rear-ended the vehicle in front of him. You really can't buy that kind of flattery.

If it were anybody else I'd think it was a bullshit story.

It may be the first time in history a guy wanted desperately to keep it up, while at the same time going out of his way to avoid rear-ending his wife....

LMAO.....

There's nothing quite like that feeling when you're certain you're going to wreck and then, somehow, don't.

In my experience, I've done one of two things: laughed uncomfortably or yelled WAHOO!

Glad you avoided high-siding into your wife's rear end, anyhow!

The worst part would have been explaining to your insurance folks why you are filing 2 separate claims on 2 different vehicles for the same day.
Oh well, you missed her, and all you got out of it is a good story. Nothing wrong with that.

Holy crap! What a rush!

You definitely get points for the maneuver, but you putting yourself back in the hole with your confession... priceless. LOL!

Your still good in my book by not letting the wife feel like she did something wrong. I'm sure you'll be forgiven...

You mention being married for 15 years. We're celebrating 30 this summer... you don't get there without a little forgiveness now and then.

Congratulations.

Glad to have you back from "The Dark Side".
Accidents do these things to us. We do become less stable riders for a while. Either we "get over it" by leaving the biking world, or we face our mortality, our fears, and our loved ones....grab the bike by the horns and wrestle our fears into a contained box where we can keep an eye on them, listen to their wise consul, and ride safely once more. You're on the road to recovery...it's a good road, and I'm sure to meet you on your wondering trails one day...
Be well.
