Suicide Squirrel

Sigh... I killed a squirrel on my way to work this morning. The stupid thing ran out into the street as I was approaching, then stopped. I slowed down a little bit and aimed to miss him on the right, but at the very last possible second he made a break for the safety of the curb and ran right under my front wheel.

Crunch-thump!

Talk about a lousy way to start your day. (Or to end your life, for that matter.)

It's strange - over here in New Zealand we don't have squirrels, but possums are a big problem. Oddly, most people don't seem to mind running over them (they are a major pest) and more than once on road trips we've taken bets on how many squashed possums we will pass. The numbers are high.

But squirrels are cute, so I'm going to be sad now.

Aha! I knew from the very first day I read your journal that you were a SQUIRREL KILLER!

In response to Deb's comment about killing possums--when can I come over with my car. Last month we had two possums IN THE HOUSE. Possums are ugly and smelly. Squirrels are cute.

I find it disturbing that I've hit the all-time high number of comments in my new "blournal" on an entry about killing a squirrel.

Don't MAKE me start posting on a theme.

I was reading some of Gus's old Elly entries and I wondered what had happened to you. That's what brought me over here.

I think the real question is: Whatever happened to Elly? Whatever it is, I'm sure Paxil is involved.

But, hey, thanks for checking me out. I returned the favor. I was a frequent read awhile back. It might be time to start again.

And hey, tell Stee I said hey.
